Rachel Riley

Fifi F and Keira I both shot for British award-winning children's clothing brand Rachel Riley.

Keira's mum said, 'Keira had an amazing day. When I asked her what she liked the most about the day she said speaking French in an English country garden. The day was just perfect!'

MINI INTERVIEW

MINI INTERVIEW

We caught up with Mum to super siblings Harrison & Imogen. Between them, they have racked up over 70 jobs over the last few years with us; including roles in TV, Film, Stills campaigns, Commercials and even the West End stage! Here, we found out how she does it!

How/when did you first join Bonnie and Betty?

My son joined Bonnie and Betty five years ago when he was 4yrs old. I applied for both children at this time but only my son was offered an assessment (and then representation) to begin with, as my daughters age range was full. The ladies at BoBe told me to keep applying as things do change so it's always worth re-applying. Sure enough, my daughter joined a year later aged almost 2. I honestly can't imagine them being with another agency as it feels like a family, they are so supportive.

What has been your personal favourite job of each of the children’s to date and why?

It's very had to pick a favourite job as both have been incredibly lucky and had the most amazing opportunities. I love the National Trust advert that my son did, it was an amazing few days filming and the final piece was stunning! The Inheritance (West End stage play) was a lot of hard work for all of us but such an incredible piece of theatre, it was an honour to have been part of such a groundbreaking play. For my daughter, I adore the Disney Junior promo she did that is being shown at the moment and her Little Bird shoot was fantastic as I love the clothes so it was a real dream job to get to see her modelling them.

How do you deal with all the last minute castings and short notice confirmations?

I'm really lucky in the fact that we live within easy reach of London so can be there in about an hour for most castings. It's not easy though and for a long time I worked 3 part time jobs that all had flexible hours so that I could swap shifts last minute as you rarely get more than 24 hours notice for castings! Now, my husband can work remotely so he is more able to take the kids which helps a lot and any days that we are both working, I make sure I book the kids out so we don't have any clashes.

Are the school supportive?

The kids school have been brilliant, there have been 4 different headteachers in the time my son has been there and each time I have gone in and spoken to the new head to explain what is involved and agree terms that will allow the children to have time off to perform. I book them out from the agency if they have tests coming up or something important is going on at school. The children have to keep their behaviour, grades and attendance up and I always take school work along for them to do on shoots so they don't get behind.

How do you manage it when both children have castings/shoots on the same day?

It can be interesting having two children in the industry, they have been lucky enough to have a couple of jobs together but we've also had to deal with them both having casting or jobs on the same day in different places! A few times it's been a case of each parent taking a child or having to get my mum or a friend to help out. When my son was in the West End I even had to get him a taxi to London on his own whilst I took my daughter elsewhere. Luckily I had an old school friend who owns a taxi so arranged for him to take my son and drop him at the theatre where his chaperone was waiting for him. Over the years I've done a lot of running through the streets of London to get to multiple castings (my Fitbit loves me!).

Any advice for others wanting to follow in your children’s footsteps?

I think the best advice I could give anyone wanting to get into this industry is to really think about what it entails and be honest with yourself as to whether you can manage it. Almost everything is last minute and you have to be prepared to drop or change plans at a moments notice. It's also expensive, travel alone is a huge cost. As a parent it is important to build good relationships with the agency, school and other parents in the industry, it really is a team effort. Reliability and good communication are key factors in success. Lastly, enjoy it! It's a crazy life but so much fun, my children love it and enjoy all the different experiences. We've made some truly awesome friends through this and I think for us as a family, that is the best part, well that and getting to see them on billboards, in magazines, on TV, in films and on stage!
